Dozens of motorists and pedestrians have been quizzed by police one week on from a brutal attack on a gangland figure.
Police investigating the attack by a gang armed with chisels and hammers today assured the public that information will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Officers have stepped up their efforts to trace witnesses after the assault, which is being treated as attempted murder, a week ago.
They returned to the scene, on Maryhill Road outside Kelvin Campus, around 11pm last night – the time of the assault last Sunday – to interview drivers.
They are now sifting through information for new leads.
Bryan Hanlon, 26, was forced off the road and assaulted by six or seven men. The attack left him with multiple injuries, including to his groin, and he is still in a serious condition in hospital.
The attack came a week after his twin brother James was targeted in an attack near Stepps, in which a power drill is said to have been used.
The pair were friends of gangland enforcer Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll, shot dead in January.
Police are looking for information about a silver BMW 5 Series and a black or dark-coloured Range Rover, both of which were seen driving at high speed on Maryhill Road around the time of the attack.
Meanwhile, a man will appear in court today in connection with the alleged power drill attack on James Hanlon.
The 19-year-old was arrested last week and is expected to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court.
