Rap superstar P Diddy swapped his designer threads for traditional Scottish tartan during his Glasgow concert last night.

Known for having a keen eye for fashion, the 40-year-old ripped off his clobber and pulled on a kilt at the city’s Old Fruitmarket.

Diddy also led the 1500-strong crowd in a rendition of Flower of Scotland during his MTV Crashes Glasgow gig.

The music mogul, who grew up in New York, was also joined on stage by a piper and drank from a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label. He told the crowd he was trying out the Scottish nation dress out of “respect”.

“You’ve got to be a real man to wear this. I wanted to embrace your heritage and culture. I’m not trying to mock you, this is serious to me. Can I party in this for a second?”

As well as performing hits such as Bad Boy For Life and Hello Good Morning, with Diddy-Dirty Money bandmates Dawn Richard and Kalenna, the rapper asked the crowd to chant football songs for their favourite teams.

He also performed tracks from Diddy-Dirty Money’s debut album Last Train to Paris and paid tribute to late father, as well as his friend Biggie Smalls, when he rapped Missing You.

Diddy was also spotted looking around Glasgow yesterday and spoke with fans and posed for photos in the city.

A “behind the scenes” programme from the visit to the UK and the performance, titled Diddy Crashes Glasgow, will be shown on MTV at midday on Saturday. Footage of the show will also be broadcast on October 8 at 9pm on MTV.
