An investigation has been launched after seven people who ate from a cold buffet suffered suspected food poisoning.

NHS Lanarkshire’s Public Health Protection Team and South Lanarkshire Council’s Environmental Health Services are investigating the incident on Saturday.

It follows reports from seven people after they ate from a buffet supplied by the Lane Diner in Tabernacle Lane, Cambuslang.

Dr David Cromie, a consultant in public health medicine for NHS Lanarkshire, said: “Five of the seven have recovered, with two still suffering some symptoms.

“All those who attended the party either have or will be contacted by public health staff or environmental health officers.

“No specific link has been identified at this stage.”

Dr Cromie said the Lane Diner underwent a routine Food Hygiene Inspection in April that was satisfactory.

Dr Cromie added: “Environmental health officers carried out further inspections of the cafe on Monday, following which the cafe and carry-out part of the business can remain open.

“However, acting on advice, the Lane Diner has agreed to cease providing cold buffets to external events until the investigation is complete.”

A worker at the Lane Diner, who did not want to give his name, said the customer for whom the buffet was provided had complained of chicken being under-cooked.

The man said: “The customer said the chicken wasn’t cooked right. We said if that was the case to put it to the side and we would reimburse her.

“On Monday she phoned back to say she was going to report it to health and safety.”

The Lane Diner owners were not available for comment.
