Queen’s Award for six firms

Five Glasgow firms and a Renfrewshire company have won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The prestigious honours have been granted to city firms ClinTec International, Sciencesoft Ltd, Thales Optronics, Royal Haskoning, and ScottishPower Renewables for its commitment to sustainability, at the Whitelee Wind farm at Eaglesham Moor.

An award also went to Peak Scientific Instruments Ltd of Inchinnan. Royal Haskoning UK Ltd has almost doubled its turnover from overseas trade in the last three years. This achievement led a judging panel, which included Prime Minister David Cameron, to honour the engineering specialists. The judges were impressed by Royal Haskoning’s growth despite the global recession. It was achieved by focusing efforts in emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa. The company recently celebrated the first ship sailing into the world’s deepest dry dock in Qatar as part of a multimillion pound project which it designed and oversaw. The Enterprise awards are made annually by The Queen, and are given only for the highest levels of excellence in three categories; international trade, innovation and sustainable development. Winners of the awards can expect a company visit by a Royal representative during the year to present a crystal bowl and an invitation to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace. They can also use the Queen’s Award emblem in advertising, marketing and on packaging for five years as a symbol of their quality and success. A total of 156 Queen’s Awards were announced this year. Overall, 102 companies have won awards for international trade, 44 for innovation and 10 for sustainable development.
