Some of the world’s top track and field athletes will take part in this weekend’s Aviva International Match.
And the event is set to be a sell-out, with only a handful of covers left.
Chairman of Glasgow Life, councillor George Redmond, said: “Over the years the Kelvin Hall has hosted some of the world’s best athletes and we are delighted that proud tradition will continue this weekend.
“This year we have a particularly strong group, including World and Commonwealth medalists, so we are looking forward to an event of the highest quality.
“I am sure the Glasgow crowd will bring out the best in those taking part and once again ensure it is a day to remember.”
World and European medallists Jenny Meadows and Marilyn Okoro are among the athletes taking part and they will go head-to-head in the 800m.
This year’s fastest hurdler, US star David Oliver, will be competing with newly-crowned European and Commonwealth champion Andy Turner.
Andy said: “I’m hoping the fans in Glasgow will really get behind me because David is currently the best in the hurdler world and the races will be tough.
“Getting points for your team at the Aviva International Match is added motivation, so I will have that in mind.”
World and European heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis has also announced she will be taking part. Glasgow City Council’s executive member for the Commonwealth Games, Archie Graham, added: “It is a hugely exciting time for sport in Glasgow as preparations for the 2014 Games move up a gear.
“We are committed to delivering the best possible Games and events such as this will help us do just that.
“The Aviva Match is also a fantastic opportunity for Glasgow to reinforce its position as one of the top sporting cities in the world.”
Events on Saturday include the pole vault, triple jump, long jump, high jump, hurdles and sprinting.
Paul Bush OBE, from EventScotland, added: “In the run up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, it is great to see such an interest in athletics in Scotland.
“Glasgow will host the first of the Aviva International series which gives fans a wonderful opportunity to see a strong line-up of athletes on their doorstep.
“EventScotland are delighted to be supporting this event and we are sure it will provide a perfect showcase of the experience and success that Glasgow and Scotland have in staging international events.”
