Take a chance to dance – and raise cash for charity

After Glasgow’s success in taking the world record for the biggest-ever tea dance and the news that Strictly is back on the TV screens, it seems ballroom is back.

And with those two prompts, dancing is taking over the city -- so if you’re feeling inspired, why not sign up for Marie Curie’s Chance to Dance event in Glasgow in November?

It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn different dances -- and to raise money for a great cause at the same time.

The event, which will be held at The Radisson Hotel on November 28, will include dance lessons in anything from Bollywood, jive and quickstep through to line dancing or Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Each class is tailored to suit all abilities, so whether you’re a complete beginner or a dancing pro, there will be something for you.

All money raised will help Marie Curie Cancer Care provide more free nursing care to terminally ill patients in their own homes or at one of the charity’s hospices including the new facility near Stobhill Hospital which was created with the help of the Evening Times Big Build appeal.

Strictly Come Dancing professional Anton du Beke, who is teamed with Ann Widdecombe for the new series, is encouraging everyone to sign up for Chance To Dance.

“Trying four different dance styles in one day is a fantastic opportunity and is sure to be a lot of fun -- even if you have two left feet,” he grins.

“By taking part you’ll also be helping people with terminal illnesses -- so sign up today, and let your feet do the fundraising.”

As reported in the Evening Times, last weekend saw George Square transformed into a giant dance floor for the World’s Biggest Tea Dance.

A total of 306 couples took to the floor to beat London’s record. Guinness Book of Records officials were there to verify the result.

Glasgow Housing Association and Glasgow Life, as well as the Evening Times, backed the event.
