THE proecutor in the Elaine Doyle murder trial has said there is "clear, powerful and compelling" evidence to convict the man accused of taking the teenager's life.

Advocate Depute John Scullion said the Crown has proved "beyond a reasonable doubt" that John Docherty, 49, murdered Elaine, 16, in Greenock in June 1986.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, he said DNA and witness evidence showed that Docherty was guilty.

He told jurors that Docherty's own actions following Elaine's death proved his guilt.

Today, defence advocate Donald Findlay QC will address the jury on behalf of his client.
