AN ELDERLY woman has died after being knocked down by a car early today.
The woman, who was understood to be making her way home, was struck by the vehicle at about 4.25am in Benhar Road, Shotts, Lanarkshire.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident happened near the town's golf club.
The victim's name will not be released until her relatives have been informed.
A post mortem will be held later.
