A GLASGOW teenager who once forged her mum's signature to get an audition for Britain's Got Talent has won a national singing competition.

Emily Middlemas, from Hillpark, beat around 9000 hopefuls to win TeenStar at Birmingham's NEC this week.

The 15-year-old Woodfarm High pupil was crowned champion of the mid-teen category in front of a capacity crowd after performing her original song Goodnight Kiss.

She said: "It's amazing, I can't believe I won but now I just want to work hard and get my songs out there."

Dad John, 51, who runs his own trades business, careworker mum Lisa, 46 and brothers Sean, 18 and 17-year-old Liam, are all delighted.

John said: "We're all very proud of Emily, this is a fantastic achievement.

"She has wanted to be a singer ever since she was nine years old, when she told us one morning at breakfast she had a Britain's Got Talent audition the next day."

He laughed: "We couldn't understand it, as we would have had to sign any application forms - but she told us she had faked her mum's signature. It showed how determined she was, and she has worked hard ever since."

Previous TeenStar winners include Union J's Jaymi Hensley and Luke Friend, who was runner up on The X Factor last year.

With interest in her running high - and rumours that she is soon to be appearing on TV too - it looks like Emily is well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a singer.

"It's all I've ever really wanted to do, since watching my brothers play drums in a band," she added. "I knew I wanted to be up on the stage too."

She added: "My family have been really supportive, taking me all over the country to auditions and competitions, so I'm really grateful to all of them. I can't wait to perform in Wembley Arena - it feels a bit like a dream at the moment."

Last year Emily - who won £5000 to spend on the development of her music and a publicity package with TeenStar organisers Future Music - organised a benefit gig for victims of the Clutha tragedy..
