SCOTLAND'S only dedicated men's 10k race has been axed.

Charity bosses pulled the plug on the Glasgow Men's 10k after they were unable to secure funding for next year's event.

The race, which raises thousands of pound each year for charity and takes in Bellahouston and Pollok Parks, has been under threat for some time due to increasing uncertainty over sponsorship.

Its organisers, the Men's Health Forum, described their "sadness" at the decision, which will result in a small number of job losses.

A spokeswoman said: "Sadly the 10k won't be happening again as we weren't successful in attracting funding for 2015."

This year's event attracted 3000 runners and incorporated a 1K for children under 14 and a 'Rascal Run' for toddlers.

The race was launched in 2006 and in 2012 raised around £42,000 for the Yorkhill Children's Foundation.

The race has struggled to attract more participants from across Scotland - about 65% are from Glasgow. The charity held talks with Nova International, the new organisers of the Great Scottish Run and Women's 10K about how to grow the event.

Judy Murray, mother of tennis ace Andy, and rugby star Scott Hastings were among the high profile supporters of the event.
