THE Scottish Student Journalism Awards have opened for entries.

And this year the ceremony will honour former Evening Times and Herald journalist Calum Macdonald, who died of cancer, aged 32, in October 2008.

It is the first year the awards will present the Calum Macdonald Memorial Award for an outstanding piece of investigative journalism written for a college or university publication or website.

The annual accolades are a showcase for young journalistic talent in print and online publishing.
