THIS is the first glimpse of part of the dramatic expansion of Buchanan Galleries.
At present the site at the junction of Cathedral Street and Hanover Street is a multi-storey car park.
But it will be demolished to make way for more shops and a multi-screen cinema.
Work on the £300million extension is due to start next year, creating around 400 construction jobs and 1600 new retail posts.
Developer Buchanan Partnership, a consortium of Land Securities and Henderson Global Investors, say the extension will result in the Galleries having a total of 100 shops and 25 restaurants.
It is hoped work will be finished around 2017, providing a major boost for Glasgow city centre.
Nick Davis, Land Securities development director, said: "The new Buchanan Galleries scheme positions the shopping centre at the heart of a new city district with modern retail, leisure, culture and transport hubs and the very best in dining and entertainment."
