Facebook in organ donor bid

FACEBOOK is being used to help increase the number of people on the organ donor register.

Registered donors can now log this information on a 'health and wellbeing' button on their Timeline. Experts say it will allow members to share their views on organ donation with family.

Sally Johnson, director of NHS Blood and Transplant unit, said: "This is an exciting new way to use the power of social media to reach a huge audience and encourage people to think about it, act, and share that information."

The Evening Times is campaigning for a switch to an opt-out system of organ donation.

Facebook UK director of policy Simon Milner, said: "We hope that our partnership with NHSBT will use the power of friendship to save lives."
