ILLEGAL levels of bleach which shatter teeth have been found in whitening kits.
Police today warned bargain hunters about the dangers of buying counterfeit cosmetics ahead of one of Scotland's biggest beauty and fashion shows.
Experts said some teeth whitening treatments contain high levels of hydrogen peroxide, which can cause teeth to shatter.
The warning comes as fashion fans arrive at Glasgow's SECC for the annual Girls' Day Out, from today until Sunday.
Police said gangsters are selling fake goods, including dodgy tanning injections and lashes laced with tiny insects, to fund serious and organised crime.
Inspector Alan Dron, chairman of the Scottish anti-illicit trade group, said: "Criminals have no scruples. All they care about is money and it would be naive of anyone to think they care about the consequences of selling dangerous products.
"Fake goods are made in unregulated environments, without regard for health regulations, so it's impossible to know what's in them."
