Police have appealed for information following the blaze in Albert Drive, Larkhall, on Saturday at around 2.50am.

Discarded furniture stored to the rear of a house was deliberately set alight.

The four occupants of the house managed to get out of their home to raise the alarm. Neighbouring properties were also evacuated.

No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

Chief Inspector Louise Skelton, area commander for Hamilton, said: "Thankfully on this occasion no-one was injured, however, the consequences of this fire could have been much worse.

"This was very frightening for the family involved. There has been considerable damage to their home as well as to two cars parked in the drive."
