A GLASGOW family has slammed the vandals who set fire to a community building dedicated to the memory of a father and son.

The Potting Shed at Lambhill Stables was set up in memory of Peter, 82, and Brian Millson, 53, who died within three weeks of each other

Vandals broke into the building, which had a bandstand for dances and was used to host a variety of local events and started a series of fires that destroyed the building.

Brian had worked for years at the Royal Mail sorting office in Springburn and his colleagues donated £1000 to his family towards the cost of his funeral in 2010.

Mr Millson’s sister Mary, 51, said: “The family decided the money should be used for something Brian would be proud of, so we donated it to the Stables to help towards the cost of building a potting shed. The money donated was in their memory.

“Not only does it sadden us that something special to us has been destroyed, but this affects many others.

“The potting shed, the gardens and the stables have been enjoyed by so many within the community, be it working in the gardens, attending art classes, bike maintenance and cycle club or having a walk in the gardens. ”

She fears the vandals may belong to local families who have attended community events.

It’s the second fire attack to hit the hub. Days before it opened last summer £25,000 damage was caused when a workshop and toolshed were also destroyed in a blaze.

Police are still investigating the latest fire.
