THEY say blood is thicker than water.

But relations were possibly a little strained when two members of the same family ended up on opposing sides at Celtic Park.

Kevin Lalley, a trainee PE teacher with Bannerman High, proved he was more than a match for his uncle, Jimmy Lalley, a PE teacher at St Thomas Aquinas in Jordanhill.

Kevin, 21, led pupils to a 2-1 win at the Glasgow Schools FA Cameronian Cup, which was played at Celtic Park.

However, the pair were united on one front.

They both support SPL champions Celtic, who were presented with the SPL trophy four days ago.

Kevin, from Baillieston has just completed a 12-week placement at the Baillieston school as part of his PE teacher training.

He said: "It was weird knowing I would be sitting across from him.

"He inspired me to be a PE teacher.

"We were having a laugh before the game but we didn't even look at each other once during it.

"It was quite stressful towards the end when they tried to equalise.

"He's away drowning his sorrows now.

"We are both Celtic fans, so it made it extra special to be at Parkhead. I couldn't sleep last night."

The boys from St Thomas Aquinas had previously lost just twice in 22 matches.

Glasgow's Lord Provost Sadie Docherty presented the trophy to the winning team.

Meanwhile, football fans are being given the chance to enjoy a popular city exhibition in the evening.

For one night only and in a first for Kelvingrove, a special night-time event is being held to showcase More Than A Game: How Scotland shaped world football.

The museum cafe will be open selling football match staples – Scotch pies and bovril.

The event is being held on Friday, May 24 from 6pm-10pm and the standard ticket price of £5/£3 will apply with discounts for group bookings.
