RANGERS fans have welcomed the news that Dave King has been given the all-clear to become Ibrox chairman.

And the Rangers Supporters Trust hope the Light Blue boost will help Stuart McCall's side in their bid for a Premiership return this season.

King will be in the stands this evening as the Gers face Hibernian in the first leg of their play-off semi-final clash after being passed 'fit and proper' by the SFA yesterday.

The development is a significant one for Rangers and the supporters and another step in the right direction ahead of what will be a huge summer on and off the park at Ibrox.

A Trust spokesman said: "If there is negative news, there is a fear that it can distract from the football but hopefully this being a positive development for the club it will give the place a lift tonight.

"The news has been very well received by fans and it is what everybody wanted to happen.

"Hopefully this news will be coupled with a good result tonight and it will give the whole club another boost.

"The focus has to be on the football at the moment but that is not to say that things can't be done in the background.

"Hopefully there will be plans on investment and other areas ready to be announced as when we are either promoted or remain in the Championship.

"Regardless of that outcome, there will have to be serious investment in the club and those plans will have to be laid out before season tickets go on sale.

"After all the fans have been through, they deserve to know what the plans are and what part they will have to play in that.

"It is good to have this matter resolved, and the hard work starts now really."

After several weeks of speculation over when, or if, King would be given the all-clear by the SFA, he can now take up his position as chairman of his boyhood heroes.

King's business and football history came under the microscope as the Hampden hierarchy delved into his past before confirming his fit and proper status.

But the South Africa-based entrepreneur can now focus his attentions on the rebuilding job at Ibrox as the Light Blues board bid for a bright future.

The Trust spokesman said: "I don't think there was ever any real problem with Dave coming in, he is someone that obviously has the club's best interests at heart.

"It was a process the SFA had to go through and it has taken longer than we might have hoped but he is in now and hopefully that will allow things to move along quicker in terms of the job the board have to do.

"You can see from the SFA's statement why it has taken the time it has and it has been frustrating for the fans.

"There has almost been a period of limbo since the EGM but the board can now move forward and that can only be a positive for the fans and the club."
