Video footage posted on Facebook, which was filmed at St Andrew's High School in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, captures disgraceful scenes at the event.

Midway through Saturday night's show, which was organised by the Barn Boxing Club in Coatbridge, a fight broke out in the crowd involving dozens of people.

The video footage shows shocking scenes as tables and chairs are thrown violently.

A man is heard appealing for calm over a public address system, but the fighting goes on for the full 90 seconds duration of the clip.

It is understood trouble flared after the announcement of the result of a bout between a member of the Barn Boxing Club and a fighter from Lochend Boxing Club in Edinburgh.

Ricky Burns, the 29-year-old WBO lightweight champion, was at the event to lend support to his former club.

He posed with fans for pictures on Saturday night and watched some of the fights.

It is thought he had left by the time the trouble flared.

Fight fans scattered as the scuffle broke into a riot and women are heard screaming on the video, before more men wade in to the battle.

Boxing fan Karl Parker, who saw the video online, said: "It paints the sport in a bad light and it's something we really could do without."

No-one from the Barn Boxing Club was available to comment.

A spokesman for North Lanarkshire Council said: "We are aware of a video posted online claiming to have been shot at St Andrew's High and will be investigating."

Police Scotland were unable to comment as the Evening Times went to press.
