Firefighters tackled a mystery early morning blaze on a remote Clyde coast island.
Emergency services were alerted around 2.45am today when a fire was spotted on Pladda, a small island off Arran.
Three fire appliances based on Arran attended and the Arran inshore lifeboat helped ferry some firefighters to Pladda.
It later emerged people on the island had lit a fire to burn rubbish, but once it got out of hand they left.
A source said: "The fire seemed to get out of control, but rather than call the fire service it got far worse until someone noticed clouds of smoke in the middle of the night."
