Fire protest man 'critical'

ALBANIA: An ex-political prisoner set himself on fire after the government ruled out talks on his demands for compensation for his suffering under communism.

Gjergj Ndreca, 51, was among 20 former dissidents jailed during the communist era and who had been fasting for 17 days. The government says the group have received compensation.

With severe burns it is not known whether the man will survive.
