Fire rips through city centre flats

More than 60 residents were evacuated from a block of flats after a fire broke out late last night

FIREFIGHTERS were called to the blaze at an eight-storey building in York Street in Glasgow city centre at around 11.20pm last night.

Crews were confronted with an "intense fire" on the three upper floors when they arrived, a spokeswoman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said.

All residents were accounted for and one woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
