FIREFIGHTER Stevie McCrorie, who is on track to score his first number one tomorrow, says he is ready to battle his next blaze - the music industry.

The 30-year-old winner of The Voice was mobbed by fans in Glasgow yesterday after a busking session.

Despite having to bat away a wasp during the performance, Stevie played his guitar and sang three songs, including one he wrote for his two-year-old daughter Bibi and his single, a cover of the song Lost Stars.

After the gig the rising star from Alva said he was still in shock at winning the talent competition and admitted it had been an emotional week.

His wife Amy is recovering in hospital after suffering stomach pains, however, Stevie said her health is improving.

He said: "Amy is extremely proud, I really miss her and I miss my little girl.

"She's still in hospital but she's on the mend."

Stevie, who is taking time off from the fire service to chase his dream of being a singer, said he was in disbelief that his song was doing so well - but he will not be celebrating.

He said: "I was hoping for a top 20, never mind a top 10 so this is amazing for me.

"I'll not be going mental or drinking. I need to look after my throat and I need to look after myself.

" I'll celebrate if I get a good album.

"I'm competing with a Jonas brother - Stevie, from Alva, a firefighter, a dad ."

But he acknowledged he was about to face a huge challenge.

He said: "There's a big fire I'm about to fight now and it's the music industry."

Stevie, who counts his mentor Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs as his pal, has played in pubs across Glasgow but has never busked before.

He said: "It's good to come back to Scotland and meet all the people. I'm actually shaking from the adrenaline.

"A year ago I was playing golf, changing nappies and now I've been propelled into this.

"I suppose this is a taster of what's to come, it will only stay if I work hard. "
