A CITY football club and a shopping centre are among many kind-hearted groups offering support to a vandalised community garden.

Donations to the Three Hills garden in Priesthill poured in from Celtic Football Club, the Silverburn mall and other locals after the Evening Times reported how heartless firebugs torched a polytunnel at the South Side facility last week.

The garden, in the grounds of Cleeves Primary School, in Nitshill, is used by children as young as two years old for outdoor lessons, and is also used to grow affordable food for the community.

William Graeme, garden chief executive, was "astounded" to be offered £1000 from Celtic FC Foundation chief Tony Hamilton, and further resources to carry out repairs from Silverburn boss David Pierotti.

William said: "I've had emails from people offering support of donations or their time as a volunteer.

"It's absolutely brilliant, I'm not used to this, this is my first year of doing the garden.

"I'm overwhelmed, as are a lot of people here.

"The donations from Celtic and Silverburn will help us get back up and running and maybe a wee bit more as well.

"We want to get decent tools for the kids, more suited to their size, and some lower tables for them too.

"We have a member who is in a wheelchair so we could build a low table that he could access.

"Thanks to the Evening Times for the help too, I didn't expect this at all."

Hoops foundation boss Tony said: "We were saddened to hear of the damage at such an important community facility but we are delighted that we could assist on this occasion.

"The community garden is used by so many people so it's necessary to restore it as soon as possible.

"People in the community are a major priority for us at Celtic FC Foundation.

Silverburn manager David Pierotti, said: "Three Hills is such an important part of the community and we were devastated to hear of the incident.

"As their neighbour, we immediately wanted to help.

"We will utilise all resources available from the mall to assist in restoring it back to its former glory."

Other local businesses have also offered to help the community garden, while others have offered to become garden volunteers.
