A NEW match reports service by the Evening Times for grassroots football has scored its first goals.

Reports from a West of Scotland round five cup game and a Scottish cup round five replay have been posted online after we launched the service earlier this month.

The Evening Times is giving amateur players from across Greater Glasgow the chance to share their match reports and pictures on our website.

It is open to everyone involved in grassroots football, from players, coaches and managers to proud parents and schools.

People can upload results, dates, times, pictures and any information about any matches they want to highlight.

The first entries have come in from the Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts/Wishaw High School FPs match, won by Wishaw by two goals to one.

Posted by Wishaw, the report singled out Inverkeithing's Blair McPake who scored the first goal, followed by Mark Brady who levelled the goals to one apiece.

FPs got the winner midway through the second half, with James Hall "lashing" the ball home.

The report said Inverkeithing "threw the kitchen sink at us in the last 10 minutes" but they managed to keep them out to set up a local derby against Dalziel HSFPs in round six.

In the West of Scotland round five cup game between Bannockburn and Harestones, both sides scored four goals and Harestones won 3 - 0 on penalties.

The report described it as "a game of changes" with Bannockburn getting off to a better start.

"Within minutes of the kick-off they were one up," the match report said.

"At this point Harestanes were all over the place and struggling to get into the game."

For the rest of the match, Harestanes rallied and attacked their rivals, going ahead in the first period of extra time, then ahead again.

It looked "cut and dried" with 15 minutes to go but Bannockburn was given a penalty and a free kick.

Penalties decided the outcome, with three scored by McClune, Oliver and Fitzsimmons.

Graham Shields, assistant editor of the Evening Times, said the service aimed to "give recognition to the grassroots football clubs and leagues in Greater Glasgow."

He said: "Schools, youth clubs, community football teams can join in, you don't have to be part of a professional league.

"We hope to in the future publish the match reports in the Sports section of the Evening Times, so the people who register and join in have a chance of getting their results into the paper."

The service can be found under the 'Sport' section of the Evening Times website.
