NICOLA Sturgeon cut the first steel for the new ferry being built at Ferguson's on the Clyde.
The yard in Port Glasgow was saved from closure and taken over by businessman Jim McColl this year and then awarded the contract for the new hybrid ferry.
Ms Sturgeon said: "We want our ferries to be sustainable and reliable. This new vessel will be fuel efficient and have lower maintenance costs, whilst ensuring a quality service for passengers."
