Flight trio traced as fever man is 'critical'

A 38-YEAR-OLD man is critically ill in a Glasgow hospital after contracting a potentially deadly fever common to Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The patient is being treated in isolation at Gartnavel General after tests showed he has Crimean-Congo haemorr- hagic fever.

The man had stepped off a flight to Glasgow from Dubai on October 2 and was taken to hospital within three hours.

Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board is trying to trace anyone who had been in close contact with the patient and is directly contacting three fellow passengers on Emirates flight EK027 which landed at 12.35 pm that Tuesday.

Dr Syed Ahmed, NHSGGC consultant in public health said the risk of person-to-person transmission of the fever is "extremely low."

Anyone who was on the flight and has concerns should call 08000 85 85 31.
