A PROJECT to improve the environment and tackle sewer flooding has been completed.
The £1.8m investment by Scottish Water has reduced the risk of internal flooding in Gourock.
Water bosses said the problem had affected 13 properties in Steel Street and Cardwell Road.
The project started in June and had been expected to take about seven months to complete but has been completed ahead of schedule.
Mark Maclaren, Scottish Water's communities team regional manager, said: "The installation of the outfall was the final piece of the jigsaw in this important project.
"It was a delicate operation which had to be carried out with great care and precision.
"Scottish Water is delighted that everything went well with this final phase of the project.
"We are fully aware of the inconvenience that flooding can cause and we were committed to tackling the issue and to improving the natural environment in this part of Gourock.
"These improvements will substantially reduce the risk of flooding affecting properties in Steel Street and that is obviously very good news for these householders."
