EARLY-morning fog caused delays and disruption for motorists in central Scotland.

The M8 was closed between junction 8 and 9 at Easterhouse because of an accident involving two cars.

The accident happened at the Stepps junction at around 8.20am. One of the cars overturned but there were no reports of any injuries.

There were also delays for drivers travelling to Renfrewshire and traffic was moving very slowly on the M77

A traffic light failure on Shieldhall Road in Govan, at the Craigton Road junction, caused some problems and motorists were being advised to drive with care.

The foggy conditions had lifted by mid-morning but are expected to return tomorrow.

Forecasters are also warning about a return to freezing temperatures this weekend, with a risk of snow across Scotland.

Overnight temperatures in central Scotland on Saturday could dip to -3˚C and Sunday temperatures will struggle to go above freezing.

There is also the chance of snow showers.

The abrupt change comes as freezing air clashes with moist Atlantic currents.

A spokesman for forecasters MeteoGroup said: "There is still a bit of uncertainty about when the snow is going to arrive and how much we will get."
