FOODBANK MEETING

PEOPLE living in Greater Pollok who support plans for a new food bank in the area are being urged to attend a public meeting tomorrow night.

Organisers and supporters will gather in Ibrox Parish Church, in Clifford Street, Ibrox. at 7.30pm to show support for the South West Glasgow Foodbank project.

Greater Pollok councillor David McDonald, who is behind the plans, said: "We want to hear from anyone who thinks they would use a food bank, or anyone who would like to donate to it – be that food, their time or a empty building, hall or shop.

"We are open to all offers of assistance."

As we reported earlier, Councillor McDonald is working with charity the Trussell Trust to develop the food bank. It will cover his ward as well as two others – Craigton and Govan.

This is in response to calls for help from local people forced to turn to food banks because of financial difficulties.

TENNIS COURTS GET TIDY UP

A COMMUNITY action day will be held this weekend to tidy up Newlands Park.

The committee of Newlands Park Tennis Courts Campaign (NPTCC) is organising the clean up as part on ongoing plans to regenerate the facility.

They are asking local people to visit the courts on Sunday.

The clean up starts at 10am.

NPTCC member Jacqueline Clark said: "We are looking to get the whole community involved. Our aim is to have the courts tidied, with new line markings, so they are in a playable condition for the spring/summer months."
