The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, the 5th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, will march through Paisley on June 20, in the culmination of a weekend of events to mark Armed Forces Day.

Events will begin on June 17 with an official flag-raising ceremony outside Renfrewshire House in Cotton Street, after which the special Armed Forces Day flag will fly for a full week.

Next day, the Provosts of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde will host a joint service at Paisley Abbey in honour of servicemen and women from both areas.

The day will also include a parade by the Royal British Legion Paisley Branch before the service, with teas, coffees and stalls at Abbey Close afterwards.

Renfrewshire's Provost Celia Lawson said: "Like many residents, I am proud of the area's strong military history.

"Over the last couple of years we have honoured that history, as well as those local men and women currently serving by celebrating Armed Forces Day.

"This year we are taking that further with a range of events culminating in the parade by the official regiment of Renfrewshire, when I grant them the Freedom of Renfrewshire.

"All these events are open to the public and I hope many people will turn out over the weekend."

Citizens Advice Scotland will also be on hand offering information and advice about its Armed Services Advice Project.

The British Legion will later be hosting a family fun day and evening dance at their offices at Renfrew Road, Paisley.
