A Glasgow man who was found dead in Cambodia has been described as a "free spirit".

Alan McCulloch is thought to have been on holiday in the Asian country when he died.

As revealed in later editions of last night's Evening Times, it is understood that Mr McCulloch, originally from Pollok, died in a swimming accident.

The 43-year-old's body is believed to have been discovered in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Kampong Saom.

It is believed he was on holiday alone at the time of his death.

Campbell McGregor was his foreman at the Dunne Group, where Mr McCulloch worked as a joiner on and off from 2007.

Mr McGregor said: "He was a great guy. Everybody here knows who he is and everyone has spoken to him at some point. He was that kind of guy.

"He was a bit of a free spirit, nothing was a hassle for him."

The team at the building firm are planning to donate money to Mr McCulloch's family.

He said: "We've put up a sheet in our office and if everyone gives something, even just £5, we'll donate it to towards his family. There's about 300 of us altogether.

"It could help with getting the body home or anything else, it's just to show how much we appreciated Alan."

Mr McGregor added that the whole workplace was "devastated and numb" by Mr McCulloch's death. He added: "When I got the phone call, I just went numb, I was in shock. I heard that he had gone out swimming at night and just not come back. He was a good swimmer, though, very fit."

"It's starting to feel real now."

A spokesman from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed that they were helping Mr McCulloch's family.
