A FUND has been created to allow young artists to produce dramatic works on city centre buildings.

The £35,000 city centre fund was launched at the same time as a city centre mural trail.

It features a range of artwork within easy walking distances with something for all tastes, including conservative, radical, quirky and bizarre.

They have been painted on buildings, vacant shop units and on hoardings around vacant land.

The new fund is aimed at promoting and supporting young artists, as well as improving the appearance of city streets and buildings.

City council leader Gordon Matheson said: "The new public artworks are a bit like Glasgow - colourful and fun. It is great to see them showcased in the new mural trail and will help encourage visitors to discover the fantastic art that is now found in and around our city centre streets.

"We hope the fund will also help to support our city's amazingly gifted artists, bring new ideas for street murals to life and provide a platform for their talent to be showcased.

"We are sure it will also add to the growing reputation of Glasgow's arts comm-unity and contribute to the city's image as a cultural centre.

"The public art-works are also helping to rejuvenate city streets, revitalise buildings and vacant sites that are looking a bit tired and re-incarnate them as beautiful pieces of public street art.

"They are also having a major impact on our city centre, creating splashes of colour and life which are helping to brighten up lanes and streets to help make them more inviting for locals and tourists alike to visit.

"And,in the process, they are supporting local businesses as well."

The new mural fund offers support with the costs of creating and delivering new works.
