The former priest, 66, of St Patrick’s Church, Anderston, died of a heart attack at the weekend. He hit the headlines after admitting a sexual relationship with Angelina Kluk, who was murdered by Peter Tobin.
But today friends and colleagues recalled the priest’s compassion and unfailing readiness to help those in need.
Close friend Pat Quinn said: “He came across as one of those guys who could never do enough for you.”
Irene Legatt, 48, a friend for more than 15 years, said: “If somebody was released from prison and had no home to return to, social services would ring him up and ask if he would take them in. He never said no and he never asked what they had done.”
Friend Pat Roper said: “The man paid a terrible price for his acts of kindness.”
The Mass was held at Our Lady Of Lourdes Church in Cardonald.
