STUNNED cops say they discovered a haul of drugs and weapons when they pulled over a motorist for driving the wrong direction down a one way street.
Officers stopped the car in the Saltmarket area on Tuesday night when they spotted it being driven the wrong way.
After becoming aware of a "suspicious smell," police searched the vehicle and discovered drugs, believed to be cannabis, a knife and wooden bat.
A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with road traffic, offensive weapons and drugs offences.
Inspector Gavin Smith said: "Officers stopped the car and drugs were recovered.
"A knife and wooden bat were also found within the vehicle.
"A 25-year-old man was arrested."
Police said the vehicle was originally stopped as part of Scottish Road Safety week.
A report is expected to be sent to prosecutors.
