AN award-winning fish restaurant in Glasgow is celebrating its 15th birthday by supporting a charity that helps Scottish fishermen.

Gamba will host a charity dinner later this month for the Fisherman's Mission, which offers welfare and emergency support for fisherman and their families.

The restaurant, in West George Street, has raised thousands for the charity since it became a patron.

Gamba will serve a 'best of 15 years' menu, created by chef patron, Derek Marshall, on October 28 including their signature fish 'foup', made with crabmeat, stem ginger, coriander and prawn dumplings, monkfish and king scallops.

All money raised at the event will help fund the work the Fishermen's Mission carry out in Scotland, notably at their centre in Troon, South Ayrshire.

The evening also marks six months of a fundraising scheme, where diners pay an extra £1 on top of their bill to support various charities, including the City Mission.

Mr Marshall said: "The Scottish fishing industry provides high quality seafood to many of the world's most important markets, and their dedicated charity deserves the help and support to provide care for our fisherman.

"Looking at our reflective menu, the dishes are a mix of both customer and staff favourites and I'm very much looking forward to cooking on the night and hope that our customers can join us in toasting for another successful 15 years."

Alison Godfrey, director of fundraising for the Fishermen's Mission, said: "Last winter's storms meant that many fishermen were unable to fish from November through to March.

"This affected many fishermen on the south-west coast of Scotland. We were able to assist by offering thousands of pounds in emergency grants to keep them going through this time.

"We can't thank Gamba enough for being part of this vital support network for our fishermen and their families. We are proud to be able to help those who go out to fish and support their families who wait for them to come safely home."

Seats at the charity dinner costs £40 per person.
