A NEW vehicle workshop has opened saving the city council millions of pounds.
The authority was facing a bill of almost £5million to replace its current facility.
Instead it has opted to take out a 20-year lease on space in Jessie Street, Polmadie, at a cost of £100,000 a year.
The depot will carry out regular servicing and maintenance on a range of council vehicles.
Glasgow City Council's land and environment spokesman Alistair Watson said: "We are benefitting from reduced maintenance costs and better levels of energy efficiency.
"Coupled with the rent payments, this delivers a substantial and welcome saving for the city's taxpayers."
