The move was announced last night in a short statement on the Rangers FC website.
It was not made clear whether Mr Traynor, the latest high-profile figure to leave Ibrox, had quit or been forced to leave the club.
The statement reads: "Rangers today announce that Director of Communications James Traynor has left the Club."
Mr Traynor, who joined Rangers in December 2012, left the Daily Record and BBC Scotland to become the club's director of communications.
He used his final newspaper column to label bloggers and journalists "despicable, pathetic little creatures."
