TIME is running out to nominate your sporting heroes for the Sports Person of the Year Awards 2013.

With a total of 13 categories, the prestigious gongs recognise the excellence of Glasgow and Scottish sportsmen, sportswomen and sports organisations.

Some of the greatest names in Scottish sport have graced the ceremony, taking home awards for their achievements.

And the deadline for this year's nominations is Friday.

Last year, six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy was named Sports Person of the Year following his triumph at the London 2012 Olympics, with previous winners including tennis star Andy Murray, boxer Ricky Burns and Olympic rower Katherine Grainger.

The Evening Times sponsors three categories which honour local heroes in the city.

Last year, Paralympian Andrew Mullen took home the Evening Times Glasgow Young Sports Person Of The Year award, while the founder of Cleveden Community Club and charity Neil's Wheels Caroline Johnston won Evening Times Glasgow Volunteer Of The Year and three-time Paralympic gold medallist Aileen McGlynn won Evening Times Glasgow Disabled Athlete Of The Year.

Other categories include the Service To Sport - Lifetime Achievement Award, Glasgow Team Of The Year, Glasgow Club Of The Year, Glasgow Primary Sports School Of The Year, Glasgow Secondary Sports School Of The Year, Glasgow Student Athlete Of The Year, Glasgow Coach Of The Year.

All this year's winners will be announced at the Sports Person of the Year celebration ceremony on February 28, in Glasgow City Chambers.

Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, said: "The Sports Person of the Year Awards gives us the perfect opportunity to recognise the remarkable achievement of sporting heroes in Glasgow and Scotland.

"Many individuals, clubs and schools have had a hugely successful year and the awards have categories for each to gain the plaudits they deserve.

"With such an abundance of sporting talent across the city it is important the people vote for who they believe are the most worthy winners.

"The closing date for nominations is this Friday and therefore I would encourage people to submit there vote before the deadline.

"I would like to thank the Evening Times for backing this event again and for showing its support for Glasgow sport stars by sponsoring three awards."
