GLASGOW suburb Giffnock has been named as one of the best places to live in Scotland.

The area, in East Renfrewshire, has been placed in the top 50 Best Towns and Suburbs to Live by The Sunday Times.

The accolade comes in part three of the newspaper's best places to live guide, which will be published this Sunday.

Other Scottish locations to be included in the list are Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, and North Berwick, East Lothian

The locations were selected for offering the best quality of life to the widest number of people, and combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces.

Home Editor Helen Davies said: "The UK is home to some fantastic cities and idyllic countryside, and most of us want easy access to both urban excitement, and rural tranquillity."

The annual supplements combine data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance with the local knowledge and expertise of writers to compile the definitive top 50 towns and suburban locations.
