GLASGOW Airport is gearing up for hundreds of thousands of Easter holidaymakers who will take to the skies this weekend.

More than 110,000 passengers are expected to jet off to sunnier climates this Easter, with many heading to popular sunspots such as the Canary Islands, Turkey, Majorca, Dubai and Florida.

Marrakech, Kos and Split also look to be thriving with holidaying Scots this half-term, with airlines easyjet, Jet2 and Thomas Cook all reporting strong demand for the popular routes.

The airport will provide Easter entertainment to keep the kids occupied whilst they wait in the departure areas, including the Easter bunny and an arts and crafts stall.

Extra staff has also been brought in to help guide passengers and those with young children, through check-in and arrival areas to ensure an easy commute for travellers.

Francois Bourienne, Commercial Director at Glasgow Airport, said: "2015 has got off to a flying start at the airport and we're expecting this year's Easter school holiday break to be a very busy period, which is really encouraging.

"The atmosphere in the terminal is always fantastic in the lead up to and during the Easter holiday period, and we will have more staff on duty to ensure our passengers enjoy a smooth journey through the airport.

"Over the coming weeks we will see our summer flight schedule get into full swing and the next three months will see the arrival of 13 fantastic new routes for our passengers, including direct flights to Las Vegas, Munich and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

"We have enjoyed a great deal of success in recent months following the completion of our £20 million terminal redevelopment programme and in developing our route network - these are the main reasons why more and more people are choosing to start their holiday from Glasgow Airport."

This season, Glasgow Airport will offer a host of new routes and services, including a double daily FlyBe service to Bournemouth and the airport's first direct flight to Budapest will launch form Wizz air in June.

Over the next three months a further 13 flights will be launched from the airport including direct flights to Las Vegas, Munich, Bordeaux and Prague.

Canadian airline WestJet will also launch daily, direct flights between Glasgow and Halifax, Nova Scotia on May 30 2015.
