Glasgow gets on its bike

SIR Chris Hoy was among 20,000 fans at the venue named in his honour, as Glasgow played host to the UCI Track Cycling World Cup.

The Olympian joined spectators taking in the final day of action at the event, held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in the city's East End.

Around 20,000 people attended the event during five sessions on Friday, Saturday and yesterday.

Organisers have the hailed the competition, which attracted an array of top cyclists, including Sir Chris's fellow Olympic medallists Laura Trott and Jason Kenny, as a "major success".

It provided spectators with the first chance to see a competitive event at the velodrome, built for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and officially opened last month.

Germany ran out overall team winners but there was a string of impressive displays from Team GB, with home favourite Laura Trott winning gold medals in both the team pursuit and omnium events.

The 20-year-old Olympian said: "The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome was really good and it certainly did me proud over the weekend.

"I'd like to thank all the fans who have been great."
