GLASGOW will play host to various events during the Scottish Cycling National 2015 Championships later this year.

Scottish Cycling, based at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, is the governing body for cycling in Scotland and the championship events will stretch all over the country, from Aviemore to Selkirk.

The events will begin on April 26 with an Olympic Time Trial Championship in Peebleshire and the Downhill MTB Championship in Ae Forest, Dumfries and Galloway.

Four of the events will be held in Glasgow, starting on May 10 with the 10 Mile Time Trial Championships and finishing on September 13 with the Youth Time Trial Championships and the BMX Championships, which will be held in Cumbernauld.

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome will host the Track Championships for the Junior and Youth age groups, from June 26-28.

Cycling is a popular sport in the city, 2014 saw Glasgow Bike Station team up with Nextbike, to put bike rental stations at popular locations in the city centre and West End.

More than 64,000 people are registered users of the hire scheme.

In November last year Future City Glasgow released the Glasgow Cycling app, which allows cyclists to upload their routes, journey time and average speed.

They can also rate certain routes out of five and highlight to other users which areas are off road or have hills, the data will be used to improve the city's cycling network.

All of the information is available on Future City Glasgow's website.

Council Leader Gordon Matheson said cycling has "increased by 200% since 2007" in Glasgow.

Dales Cycles at Queen Street Station even offer electric bikes for those looking for an easier, less strenuous ride, which can be handy for going up the hills Glasgow is famous for.

Scottish Cycling also host the British Cycling BMX Series, British Cycling MTB Cross-Country Series both due to be held in Glasgow later this year, and the British Cycling Youth National Circuit Race Championship which will be held in Paisley in July.

Online entry is available for the Olympic Time Trial Championships, Cross-Country MTB Championships, Downhill MTB Championships and all British Series events at the Scottish Cycling website.

Participants must be a member of a Scottish cycling club, born in Scotland, be a Scottish resident or have at least one parent who was born in Scotland in order to be in for a chance at the Scottish National title.
