Glasgow hotel wins top business award

One of Glasgow’s top hotels has won the Employer of the Year Award at the National Business Awards.

The Glasgow Marriott Hotel was awarded the prize at Grosvenor House in London.

They were the only Glasgow business to win an award at the prestigious event.

Patricia Rainey, Cluster Director of Human Resources, said: “We were delighted to win the award.

“It was a fantastic evening.” The hotel beat a shortlist of ten competitors to win the award. They won because of their work with people from all walks of life. Patricia said: “It’s really about the fact that we as a hotel have gone out of our way to work with people from disadvantaged backgrounds.” The hotel works closely with various agencies across Glasgow, including Job Centre Plus and Glasgow City Council. Programmes the hotel has run include confidence-building courses for women with mental health issues. The hotel is also currently working with young people who are leaving care. Patricia added: “While there are challenges in working with people from disadvantaged backgrounds they have proved to be excellent employees.” The hotel also won Best Group Employer in Hospitality from Caterer.com a few weeks ago.
