GLASGOW now has 28,500 BT wi-fi hotspots, according to figures released by the telecoms giant.

The zones, which allow mobile access to the internet on phones, tablets and laptop computers, are increasing across Scotland.

The figure was revealed as transport chiefs announced that free wi-fi access was also being rolled out in the city's main train stations.

BT said the number of wi-fi zones across Scotland was now 465,000, up from 320,000 in January last year.

Brendan Dick, director of BT Scotland, said: "We are seeing growing use of our network as wi-fi users spend more time online.
