Glasgow is braced for blizzards

BLIZZARD conditions could finally hit Glasgow, after the rest of the UK was battered earlier this week.

The city has so far avoided the worst of the freezing temperatures and heavy snow that plagued the rest of the UK, causing chaos for commuters on rail, road and airlines.

But the reprieve could be over as forecasters issued warnings for snow tomorrow.

Rain tonight is expected to turn to snow in the morning, with the cold spell persisting throughout the day and high winds causing the risk of snow drifts.

The cold snap is expected to be fairly short-lived, with temperatures set to warm up over the weekend.

In the meantime, motorists are being advised to take care on the roads and to keep up to date with travel news.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow for tomorrow.

On Saturday temperatures should return to normal levels, but on Sunday, rain combined with thawing snow could lead to a risk of flooding.

Sarah Holland, forecaster for the Met Office, warned of wintry showers tomorrow, with rising temperatures over the weekend.

She said: "There is a cold night ahead and then a cold day tomorrow. We will be seeing a mix of rain, sleet and snow.

"We are going to see a band of rain that will gradually turn to snow as it moves from west to east, with 2-5cm predicted in some areas.

"Glasgow is right on the edge of the warning area, so could probably see a wintry mix, turning to snow as it moves further east.

"There will be strong winds around as well and this could cause disruption to travel."
