THOUSANDS of talented performers are preparing to take part in the 103rd Glasgow Music Festival.

Last year more than 7000 musicians, vocalists, dancers and speakers of all ages took part in a series of events across the city.

Now organisers believe this year will be the biggest and best yet when it kicks off tomorrow.(SAT)

Some of the highlights in the programme include the Clarsach performance, which takes place tomorrow at Renfield St Stephen's Church, advanced piano and Scottish country dancing.

The festival is also returning to its Royal Concert Hall roots, with some performances scheduled to take place in the landmark.

Laura McEwan, festival secretary, said: "We are very excited about the performances this year.

"We've had so many entries from performers in all age groups.

"We have people from pre-school age to 84-years-old.

"There will be some fantastic speech entries, including monologues. There's lots of talent out there to showcase."

accolades and merits will be handed out to winning performers.

Ms McEwan said the festival's ethos was about encouraging people to perform.

She said: "It's not all about winning, it's about performing. We are giving people the chance to perform."

The final concert takes place on Saturday March 21.
