A GLASGOW pensioner has scooped £240,000 at the bookies after betting £30,000 on a Tory majority.

The man, who has not yet been named, has won the biggest pay out of any election bet.

He made the 7/1 bet in the Hope Street chain of Ladbrokes on April 29.

The winner takes home £210,000 plus his original bet of £30,000.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes confirmed the bet had won and said: "We believe our customer in central Glasgow has also become the biggest election winner of the entire campaign and we tip our hat to him and his political forecasting skills."

Early forecasts failed to predict a Tory majority but it was later predicted in an exit poll on Thursday evening, just hours before the first results were announced.
