To celebrate the launch of this year's Surge Festival, the clown, who stars in tactical street art group PVI Collective's show Deviator, was in Buchanan Street and at the Gallery of Modern Art.

Surge, presented by The Arches' project Conflux, is Scotland's third annual festival of street arts, physical theatre and circus.

The event will run until Sunday. Highlights include an exclusive set of shows from transformational French performer and sculptor Olivier De Sagazan, and aquatic- themed street theatre from Fish Out of Water.

As part of the Merchant City Festival, The People's Tower, a gigantic cardboard tower, will be at The Briggait from today until Friday and on Sunday and schools and community groups can help build it.

More events will take place at some of the city's top venues including the Arches, as well as on the streets.

Al Seed, Conflux artistic director, said: "Surge, now in its third year, continues to partner with UZ Arts and the Merchant City Festival and gain strength as an exciting citywide festival.

"We'll connect with the local community for The People's Tower, create wonderment with street performances such as Fish Out of Water and this year we introduce a new strand, SCOPE, which will provide mentorship to Scottish-based emergent physical performers to enable them to finish partially developed creative work and enhance their practices."
