SCOTLAND'S first Color Run has been cancelled.

Organisers of the 5k race - dubbed " the happiest 5k on the planet" - emailed participants to let them know the event has been "postponed".

They say not enough people have signed up to the challenge, which sees runners daubed in coloured paint at each one kilometre mark.

An email sent out to participants reads: "We're very sorry to announce that we have made the really tough decision to postpone The Color Run Glasgow 2015 due to lack of entries.

"We've been working hard the last few months to plan what was going to be an epic event and were looking forward to bringing the Happiest 5k on the planet to Scotland.

"Sadly though, due to lack of entries we won't be coming to Glasgow in 2015.

"We are just as gutted as you guys; we were so looking forward to colouring you all happy."

Anyone who has already signed up to the race, which would have been held at the Emirates Arena, is being offered a refund or a place at an alternative event.

The cancellation message adds: "Simply email us on info.uk@thecolorrun.com stating either 'refund' or 'swap' in your subject line, and we will work as quickly as possible to sort it out for you.

"Once again, we're super sorry we won't be colouring Glasgow this year but we really hope you can join us at another one of our events in 2015."

The Evening Times first told about the race in April.

The Color Run is not timed and sees participants walk, jog and run round the course while being covered in coloured paint.

More than 85,000 people took part in events last year.

This would have been Scotland's first Color Run.
